When I moved into a converted shuttle bus to travel the country at the end of 2019, I found myself desperately looking for remote jobs. I had decided to go after my dream to travel the country full-time and in doing so, compromised the career I had started building in the hospitality industry. I was a pre-pandemic nomad searching for remote jobs with no previous experience when there were very few to go around.
I quickly ended up in the freelance world, taking any and all jobs I could on platforms like Fiver and Upwork. At first, this type of remote work was perfect for me, it allowed me to build up a resume of online work while giving me great flexibility with my schedule. Something that as a new full-timer I really needed as I navigated the first months of life on the road, tried different portable internet hotspots, and covered hundreds of miles and sights around the country.
Freelancing is where I discovered how much I value a flexible work environment, which I would later learn would become a non-negotiable for me as a full-time remote worker and traveler. But freelance also taught me to value the steadiness of one role and how important it is for me to care about what I am working on.
Understanding my need for meaningful work was a turning point. This realization led me to explore fully remote roles in industries I was passionate about. My love for the outdoors and my experience in hospitality guided me to RVshare.
